We dropped in last minute for lunch, and they could fit us in. I would advise making reservations though. The portions were perfect, the food damn tasty, and the service excellent. They made the bold claim of having the world's best olives. I don't know about that, but they were really good!
For about 2 decades our dive club have used this place for a quick pint or 2 after a Dive. I understand that its recently under new management. The other week we popped in and were abruptly told that the bar is no longer open for non residents, we would have happily sat outside on the garden benches too, very disappointing and makes no business sense.
Booked table three days in advance for Easter dinner for six at five thirty. On arrival told by surly staff that no table available. Told to go to bar where bar staff said they ere too busy to serve us. Eventually told table was ready. Shown into breakfast room with six by twelve table with a bit of cutlery thrown on table. So had to almost shout to speak to each other Asked why no dining room staff said only table for six taken and couldn’t put smaller tables together? Some food eg undercooked steak pie was inedible, even chips (which are an additional charge) were undercooked. Fish pie measly to say least. My daughter ordered herb tea was told none available-other waitress said it was. Service continued to be surly and unwelcoming. At no time was there any apology offered. Had my family not travelled from west to meet up and I from Toronto -I would have left. Altogether the worst dining experience ever. All this for a mere 160 pounds! I contacted hotel next day but no reply. Utterly unacceptable.
